A time estimate is part of the access plan
For a London office, the useful question is when staff need the floor again. Give the contractor both the last occupied time and the next required access time. Include early arrivals, security and other cleaning teams, not just normal office hours.

A shorter advertised drying time does not establish that a method is suitable for deep soiling, a particular backing or a raised access floor.
Check the surface and the surrounding routes
A surface that feels dry is not evidence that every layer below it is dry. Follow the flooring manufacturer’s instructions and the agreed site assessment. Also check transitions onto smooth floors, cables, equipment and the routes people will actually use.
HSE explains that signs warn about a hazard but do not prevent entry. The access plan must use appropriate separation and controls, not rely on a sign alone.
What to agree before an overnight clean
- Who can release each area and when the last people leave.
- Whether ventilation and suitable airflow can be maintained.
- Who checks the floor and authorises reopening.
- How a delayed drying window will be communicated.
- Which alternative routes or later handback arrangements are practical.
Record the result at completion
The handback record should identify areas completed, any restrictions and follow-up work. If the planned reopening time is no longer realistic, the responsible site contact should decide the next step before the space is released.
